This week is a big deal in Champaign County, Ohio; it’s the county fair! I grew up in 4H, where I have memories of success, and plenty of memories of failure…

Do you recognize Sylvia’s box? It came just as expected on Sunday afternoon.
To Sylvia, this wasn’t just any old Amazon box. She had asked her daddy for an early birthday present. (Ok. She asked me too, but I made Stephen decide!) Those 2 whole days we made her wait were just excruciating…

My mom worked in the school system; so I kind of knew better than to start asking how soon we had to go back to school. But I’m pretty sure I always asked about the start of school year around this time of summer anyway…

This summer, I keep coming back to the wilderness. Or maybe I should say the wilderness keeps coming back to me?
It’s been in sermons. It’s been a topic shared by a favorite author (look up Hannah Brencher, if you’re interested). It’s in the daily verses on my phone. It was in a podcast this morning. A friend even texted to say it was being mentioned on the morning news…

As parents, it’s been Stephen and my job to try to teach our girls the practice and routine of prayer. At it’s core, prayer is communicating with God. At our house, we’ve been intentional in making prayer active, accessible, despite their age, and just a little fun.

Look at this silly Sylvia! Do feelings, or memories, rise up in your heart when you look at her, hung over in weariness and hunger? (She had spent the morning playing dolls with a friend; it's a hard life, right?)

Friday we brought home the prettiest yellow roses. Those pretty yellow roses came from the cemetery.
Last Monday, my great Aunt Zelpha, at 95 years old, went home to be with Jesus. The girls each carried around their rose they way they carried around their big question: “What is heaven like?”

How many of your kids, grandkids, or nieces and nephews have had a set of these teething keys? Did you know they’re actually the keys to heaven?
I mean, that’s what Sylvia said, so…

This isn’t the first, nor the last, time I’ll bring up my grandma Olajeane, or Jeanie as most people knew her. Today’s artwork isn’t my own; it’s Grandma’s. She was an artist. I don’t know that she would have called herself that, but she was.

Waiting is hard! It is not my strong suit. Ask my husband: when I’m ready for something to be done, I just go do it, whether anyone else is ready or not! He’ll give you examples of moving furniture, painting rooms, and cutting down bushes just to get the conversation started.

Wisdom. Discernment. Obedience. These 3 words have been my prayer for nearly a year now.

Saturday, I was angry. I was not humble and gentle with Stephen or myself. I was not patient with the situation. I did not make allowances for either of our faults.

Let’s talk about mountains a minute. Mountains are big. They’re heavy and stationary. They block our vision. And mountains are beautiful, but if we aren’t prepared for them they can make us feel small, powerless and even lost.
